Godot 3D Walking Simulator
About This Project
A Godot 4 learning project exploring 3D environments, shaders, audio systems, and interactive gameplay mechanics.
Project Deep Dive
Godot 3D Walking Simulator is an experimental game development project created to explore the 3D capabilities of Godot 4 and gain hands-on experience with modern game development workflows. The project began as a basic walking simulator and evolved into a playground for learning advanced engine features.
The project includes a fully navigable 3D environment with interactive elements, ambient audio systems, custom visual effects, and optimized physics interactions. The primary goal was to deepen understanding of Godot's node architecture, scripting systems, and 3D rendering pipeline.
To enhance immersion, background music and environmental audio were integrated into the world. A low-poly horse asset was imported and connected to a proximity detection system using Area3D, triggering spatial sound effects when players approach the object.
A custom water shader was developed using Godot's shader language to simulate dynamic wave motion and depth-based shoreline blending. This allowed the project to explore real-time rendering techniques and procedural visual effects commonly used in modern 3D games.
Interactive vegetation was implemented using the SimpleGrassTextured addon, creating natural grass movement throughout the environment. The Jolt Physics engine was also configured to provide smooth collision handling and realistic player interactions.
The project served as a practical learning experience in game development, covering 3D asset integration, audio systems, shader programming, environment design, physics simulation, and gameplay scripting within the Godot ecosystem.
